Private Voice Lessons

  • I am excited you’re here! Singing in front of other people (even if its just your teacher) takes great courage, and I am honored by the trust my students place in me to help care for and develop their voices. Singing is also a great way to build self confidence and happiness; you have so much to look forward to!

Weekly private voice lessons begin with a review of the past week goals and practicing, followed by vocal warm-ups and relevant vocal education. Next, the student and I collaborate to select new music or continue to work on previously chosen music. Throughout lessons I prioritize vocal health and safety.

Education topics and practice exercises for voice lessons vary depending on the age, goals, and background of the student. These topics may include expanding range, vocal anatomy, smoothing vocal breaks, articulation, performance, and more.

Every student in my studio will have the opportunity to perform in a recital at least once a year. These performances are not mandatory, but highly encouraged.

  • For new students I offer an introductory 30 minute lesson free of charge.

Tuition for weekly lessons is charged monthly and varies depending on the length of lesson time. Prices are shown below:

    Weekly 30 minute lessons — $80

    Weekly 45 minute lessons — $120

Private Music Theory Lessons

  • Do you love music but want to understand how to read it? Are you a parent wanting your child to be a well rounded musician? I want that for you too, and it’s why I wrote a music theory guidebook and started teaching music theory!

Weekly private music theory lessons begin with a review of the previous weeks lesson and homework assignment. Next, new information is taught and practiced to prepare for the upcoming weeks assignment. I firmly believe that music theory can be fun to learn and I use rhythm games, desk bells, piano, and whiteboard exercises to help students engage with the lessons.

Lesson topics include understanding rhythm and pitch, the music staff, reading notes, time signatures, the piano keyboard, conducting, key signatures, chords, and more.

Reading Music Basics. This class is very responsive to the pacing needs of students and is ideal for families hoping to enroll multiple children of similar age and music ability. This class is taught over the course of a school year.

Music Theory Crash Course. This eight week class is fast paced and intended for students who already know the fundamentals of reading music but want to fill in holes in their music education and exposure to more advanced topics.

  • Pricing varies by group. Please contact me for more information.

Please note that for group lessons, tuition is charged by semester.

Group Voice Classes

  • Group voice is ideal for young or beginning voice students. It is essentially a combo of voice lessons and a small choir experience. We focus on learning to match pitch, solfege, and we practice singing rounds and harmony using mainly folk songs. This class is best taught to small groups of children of similar ages, usually older elementary and middle school.

My Musical Background

The first DVD my parents bought was “The Sound of Music” starring "Julie Andrews as Maria, and I have many fond memories of watching it with my family as a kid. Growing in a music filled home, I was blessed with many music and performance opportunities which included participating in multiple audition choirs, handbell choirs, piano lessons, viola lessons, guitar lessons, but it wasn't until doing voice lessons that I truly fell in love with music.  Developing my talent for singing transformed my self perception and gave me many unforgettable opportunities. As a teen I had the incredible, and serendipitous, opportunity to perform in a production of “The Sound of Music” as Maria.

As a young adult I competed in vocal competitions and was awarded multiple scholarships. While in college I took the opportunity to not only grow as a singer, but as a musician by studying music theory. In 2020 I took a leap and started teaching voice lessons and I currently in the final stages of writing a music theory curriculum, which is what I use with my music theory students. My life has been so blessed by music, and I am honored to be able to share that with my students.

My Teaching Philosophy

My teaching philosophy is based on the idea that life is all about relationships and that the most important learning in life happens in the heart, not the head.

Life is all about relationships.

I believe that life is all about relationships. In music that includes our relationship with the music itself, with our teacher, with the audience, with our instrument(s) and, most importantly, with ourselves. This is especially true with the voice, where our instrument is our own body.

We all want to feel that our voice matters, that someone is truly listening, but so often we feel the opposite. Although it takes great courage to use and improve this most personal of instruments, the rewards are far reaching.  Not only are relationships with others positively impacted by developing vocal confidence, but one's own self worth can also increase.

As a music teacher, my goal is to create an environment where you feel that your voice matters and is appreciated exactly as it is today, with the result that your energy can be free to focus on learning, improving, and ultimately, connecting back to strengthen relationships.

Learning happens first in the heart.

We have all learned information we didn't care about and forgot immediately after passing a test. Compare that to how you can remember information which you care deeply about, even if it was not presented to you at school but instead came from a friend, mentor, or a book. This is the power of engaging the heart of a student.

I believe that a love of music is nurtured in the heart, and I strive to engage my students through practicing fun applications of what we learn, exploring different styles of music, and inviting their heartfelt input.

Music is a powerful tool to foster self worth, beautiful relationships, and to touch hearts.

More About Me Personally

I am a wife and homeschool mom of two little kids. After I graduated in 2020 with my bachelor's degree from Utah State University in Family Life Science, Family Relationships, my husband and I moved to our hometown of Twin Falls Idaho. We have recently moved back and are excited to introduce our children to the wonderful scenery and community of Cache Valley. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a return missionary from the Laie Hawaii Temple Visitors' Center.

In addition to my passion for music, I enjoy drawing, watercolor, teaching crocheting, hiking, fun runs, and reading
